What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?
Any of the following: speech, religion, assembly, press, or petition the government.
What does freedom of religion mean?
It means you can practice any religion, or not practice a religion at all. The government cannot establish an official religion.
What is the freedom of speech?
The right to express your opinions and ideas without fear of government censorship or retaliation, though there are some limits (like incitement to violence).
What is the freedom of the press?
The right of journalists and media organizations to report news and express opinions without government censorship. It is closely related to freedom of speech.
What is the freedom of assembly?
The right of people to gather peacefully in groups, for protests, rallies, or other purposes, without government interference.
What is the right to petition the government?
The right to make a complaint to, or seek the assistance of, one's government, without fear of punishment or reprisal.
The First Amendment contains two clauses related to religion. What are they?
The Establishment Clause, which prohibits the government from 'establishing' a religion, and the Free Exercise Clause, which protects citizens' right to practice their religion as they please.
