The answer in a subtraction problem is called the 'difference'.
In the problem $$8 - 3 = 5$$, what number is the difference?
The difference is $$5$$
How do you read this math problem out loud: $$7 - 2 = 5$$
You read it as: "Seven minus two equals five."
There are $4$ balloons and $1$ flies away. How many are left?
$3$ balloons are left. The problem is $$4 - 1 = 3$$
Which number do you usually start with in a subtraction problem?
You usually start with the bigger number and subtract the smaller number from it.
