Intro to Multiplication & The Zero Property

1 of 7
What does multiplication mean?
Multiplication is a fast way to do repeated addition. For example, \(3 \times 4\) is the same as adding \(4 + 4 + 4\).
In the problem \(3 \times 5 = 15\), what is the answer \(15\) called?
The answer to a multiplication problem is called the 'product'.
What is the Zero Property of Multiplication?
Any number multiplied by \(0\) is always \(0\). Or the 'product' of multiplication by \(0\) is always \(0\). For example, \(100 \times 0 = 0\).
$$4 \times 0 = ?$$
$$0$$
$$0 \times 2 = ?$$
$$0$$
$$5 \times 0 = ?$$
$$0$$
If you have \(3\) baskets with \(0\) apples in each, how many apples do you have in total?
You have \(0\) apples. This shows that \(3 \times 0 = 0\).
