Arithmetic Patterns: Addition

1 of 12
What is the rule for an addition pattern?
The rule is to add the same number, called the 'common difference', to each term to get the next term.
How can you find the rule in an addition pattern?
Subtract any term from the term that comes right after it. For example, in \(5, 10, 15\), you can calculate \(10 - 5 = 5\). The rule is 'add \(5\)'.
What is the rule for the pattern \(7, 11, 15, 19, ...\)?
The rule is 'add \(4\)'. \(7 + 4 = 11\), \(11 + 4 = 15\), and so on.
Find the next three terms in the pattern: \(2, 12, 22, 32, ...\)
The rule is 'add \(10\)'. The next three terms are \(42\), \(52\), and \(62\).
What is the missing number in this sequence? \(8, 14, \_\_, 26, 32\)
The missing number is \(20\). The rule is 'add \(6\)', and \(14 + 6 = 20\).
A pattern starts at \(5\) and follows the rule 'add \(8\)'. What are the first four terms?
The first four terms are \(5\), \(13\), \(21\), and \(29\).
What is the rule for the pattern \(100, 125, 150, 175, ...\)?
The rule is 'add \(25\)'.
Find the next term in the pattern: \(3, 10, 17, 24, ...\)
The next term is \(31\). The rule is 'add \(7\)', and \(24 + 7 = 31\).
Identify the number that does not fit the pattern: \(4, 8, 12, 15, 20\)
The number \(15\) does not fit. The rule is 'add \(4\)', so the term should be \(16\).
Ava saves \(\$5\) the first week, \(\$9\) the second week, and \(\$13\) the third week. If she follows this pattern, how much will she save in the fourth week?
She will save \(\$17\) in the fourth week. The pattern rule is to add \(\$4\) each week.
Find the missing term: \(1, 1.5, 2, \_\_, 3\)
The missing term is \(2.5\). The rule is 'add \(0.5\)'.
A pattern starts at \(9\) and the rule is 'add \(9\)'. What is the third term?
The third term is \(27\). The sequence is \(9, 18, 27, ...\).
